The Duluth lynchings

Six Black circus workers were accused of assaulting a white woman on a false charge, a doctor found no evidence any assault had occurred. A crowd of thousands broke into the police station and hanged three of them from a lamppost, and a photograph of the bodies was sold as a postcard. The city put up a memorial on the corner in 2003, naming Elias Clayton, Elmer Jackson and Isaac McGhie.
