The Cleveland zoo starts with fourteen donated deer and moves to Brookside

Jeptha Wade gave the city seventy acres and fourteen deer with their enclosure in 1882, and Cleveland added pigeons, two vultures and a seagull. The collection outgrew Wade Park, so the city council voted in 1907 to move it across town to Brookside Park, a shift that took until 1914 to finish because the bears went last. It now runs to 183 acres and draws over a million visitors a year.
