The Camron-Stanford House, the last mansion left on Lake Merritt
1876
Lake Merritt, Oakland, California

Victorian mansions once ringed Lake Merritt and this 1876 Italianate is the only one still standing. A run of well connected families lived in it before the city took it over, and in 1907 it opened as Oakland's first museum, a job it held for the next six decades. It is run as a house museum today.
