The Blue Hole of Santa Rosa

Santa Rosa, New Mexico

An artesian spring in the desert off Route 66 drops eighty one feet through water so clear the bottom looks touchable, holding sixty two degrees year round and renewing itself every few hours. Santa Rosa, hours from any coast, became the scuba certification capital of the Southwest because of it. Divers train in the blue cylinder while road-trippers eat burritos at the rim. The town calls itself the City of Natural Lakes, which on the llano is close to a miracle.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
