Michigan Bell and Western Electric put up this warehouse, garage and office block on Oakman Boulevard in 1929 and 1930 to hold the equipment of a growing phone system. It sat empty for years afterward. A renovation costing about $52 million reopened it in 2012 as the NSO Bell Building, with 155 one bedroom apartments for formerly homeless Detroiters plus the agency's own offices under the same roof.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
