The Atlanta Area School for the Deaf opens in Clarkston
1972
Clarkston, Georgia
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
Georgia opened this state-run school in Clarkston in 1972 for deaf children from across the metro area, taking students from infancy through twelfth grade including those with additional disabilities. It belongs to no school district and answers to the state education department directly. Its presence is part of why the surrounding schools carry deaf and hard of hearing programs the rest of the county does not.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
