The Angel of Grief at the family mausoleum
1901
Stanford, California

Jane Stanford commissioned a copy of a Roman grave sculpture, a winged figure collapsed across an altar, for the family tomb after her brother died. The original angel was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake and replaced. It sits in a stand of trees a short walk from the mausoleum holding Leland, Jane and the son the university is named for.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
