Sunken Gardens
1935
St. Petersburg, Florida
A plumber bought a lot with a shallow lake, drained it, and found the muck at the bottom of the old sinkhole grew tropical plants better than anything around. He charged a nickel to look. It is one of the last of the Florida roadside gardens from before the theme parks, bought by the city in 1999 when the family finally sold.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
