A newspaperman and a plantsman turned ten acres of swamp into a tropical garden and opened it in 1939, when a garden with parrots in it was a legitimate day out. It is among the oldest continuously operating attractions in Florida, and the flamingos that wander the paths have been the thing people photograph for eighty years.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
