Stricker's militia camped on Bread and Cheese Creek the night before North Point

The reason the Americans fought where they did is this creek. Between Bear Creek and Bread and Cheese Creek the peninsula narrows to about a mile, with woods for cover and swamp on the left flank, which is exactly the ground a smaller force wants. Stricker's brigade camped along the creek on the evening of 11 September 1814 and formed his line across the neck the next morning. The creek runs three miles into the Back River and is now culverted and built over for much of its length.
