St. Johns Light, the fourth lighthouse at the river mouth
1954
Mayport, Jacksonville, Florida
Four lighthouses have marked the entrance to the St. Johns since 1830, each one raised because sand or dunes had defeated the last. This tower was built on Naval Station Mayport in 1954 to take over from a lightship anchored offshore. The 1859 brick tower it replaced still stands about a mile away behind a fence inside the base. The 1954 light was added to the National Register in 2018.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
