St. Elizabeth High School and the school that reopened in its building
1921
Fruitvale, Oakland, California
Franciscan friars opened St. Elizabeth High School in Fruitvale in 1921 and ran it as the neighbourhood's Catholic school for most of a century. It closed in 2017. The campus reopened the following August as Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School, which places its students in paid work five days a month to cover a share of their own tuition.
