Detroit's school board engaged Donaldson and Meier in 1926 to design an intermediate school for the Conant Street corridor north of Hamtramck, and it took its first students in September 1927. Nothing on the Collegiate Gothic exterior has been changed since the day it was finished, which is most of the reason it reached the National Register in 2015. The building is still a working school and now houses Frontier International Academy.
