Spruce Knob, Pendleton County, West Virginia

The highest ground in West Virginia at 4,863 feet, and the wind up here is constant enough that the red spruce grow branches on one side only, all of them leaning east like something startled them. A stone observation tower sits at the top and a road goes most of the way. On a clear day the ridges run to the horizon in every direction with almost no lights in them.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
