A saddle twenty miles wide where the Continental Divide flattens enough that a wagon can cross without a winch, found by fur traders in 1812 and rediscovered in 1824. Every one of the great overland trails funnels through it. Without this gap the settlement of the West happens differently, or much later.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
