The Public Works Administration paid for this Washington Street post office, put up in 1935 and 1936 with the Depression still on. It is brick in Flemish bond with limestone trim under a truncated hip roof, the standard federal manner of the decade done with care. It still handles Union Square's mail.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
