Sankofa Wetland Park turns Lower Ninth Ward ground back into swamp
2017
Lower Ninth Ward, New Orleans, Louisiana
Work began in 2017 on a park along Florida Avenue designed to hold water rather than shed it, in the neighbourhood the levee breach emptied in 2005. The plan runs to 42 acres with a ten acre wetland pond, nature trails and a bike path, and it is still being built out. The name is the Akan word for going back to fetch what was left behind.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
