Sand Branch is a freedmen's town in Dallas County with no running water
1985
Sand Branch, Dallas County, Texas
Freed people settled this ground between the Trinity River and Hickory Creek in the 1800s, and it is the last unincorporated settlement left in Dallas County. Residents drew from their own wells until testing in the mid 1980s found E. Coli in them, and they have lived on bottled water since. There is still no water main, no sewer and no fire hydrant, which is why a grass fire in 2026 pulled crews from several departments and put the place back in the news.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
