Sacred Heart opened in 1975 in Chaldean Town, the Seven Mile strip where Iraqi Catholic families from the village of Telkaif first landed in Detroit. In 1979 the new Iraqi president donated a quarter of a million dollars to the parish and the city gave him a key to Detroit in return. Its pastor never disowned the gift, though he later said power had got the better of the man. The congregation moved to Warren and the building closed in 2015.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
