Work began in 1898 and the cornerstone went down in 1899, but the design changed from Irish to French Gothic in 1913 and the cathedral was not completed until 1954. It is the fifth largest cathedral in North America, with a rose window thirty six feet across and the largest organ Schantz ever built. John Paul II prayed here in 1995 and raised it to a minor basilica the same day.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
