Rumsey's steamboat
1787

James Rumsey drove a boat up the Potomac against the current in December 1787 by pumping water through a stern nozzle, twenty years before Fulton, in front of a crowd that included a general who had already endorsed him in writing. He died in London before he could build a commercial one and the credit went elsewhere. A monument stands above the landing where it happened.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
