Royal Oak Township, half a square mile left of thirty six

The original survey township organised in 1833 covered 36 square miles. Everything around it incorporated as its own city, and what is left is 0.55 square miles and roughly 2,400 people, the smallest charter township in Michigan by area. The remnant is the historically Black portion, and it is separate from and independent of the city of Royal Oak that took its name.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
