Ross S. Sterling High School carries the name of the man who built these towns
1966
Baytown, Texas
Baytown grew fast enough in the 1960s to need another high school, and this one opened in 1966 on about 86 acres. It is named for Ross S. Sterling, who founded Humble Oil out of the Goose Creek boom, laid out the townsite that became the city of Goose Creek, and served as governor of Texas from 1931 to 1933. The refinery his company started building in 1919 on Black Duck Bay is what the whole town grew around.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
