During the postwar building boom Roosevelt was one of the few places on this part of the island that would sell to Black buyers at all, so it took in the families that Levittown and its imitators wrote out of their deeds. Then agents worked the blocks from the other direction, telling white owners a growing Black population was about to sink their property and pressing them to sell cheap and fast. The tactic has a name, blockbusting, and Roosevelt is one of the places it was run hardest.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
