Rockaway Parkway, the end of the L and a subway station at street level
1906
Canarsie, Brooklyn, New York
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
The Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company opened this terminal at Rockaway Parkway and Glenwood Road on 28 July 1906. It is one of the very few stations in the New York subway built at grade rather than above the street or under it, and every L train out of Manhattan still ends here. Riders once got off and changed to a shuttle that carried them the rest of the way down to the Canarsie shore.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
