Ravisloe, the first Jewish country club in the Chicago area
1901
Homewood, Illinois
Members of Chicago's Standard Club, a Jewish social club, founded Ravisloe on a Homewood farm in 1901, and it is recognised as the first Jewish country club in the region. The original nine holes were laid out by James Foulis and Theodore Moreau, extended to eighteen under William Watson, then rebuilt under Donald Ross between 1917 and 1919. George Nimmons designed the Spanish Mission clubhouse in 1917. It is a public course now.
