Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium, the only combined pair in the Northwest

The zoo opened in 1905 on the bluff inside Point Defiance Park. A separate aquarium started down on Commencement Bay in 1935 and moved up to join it in 1963, making it the only combined zoo and aquarium in the Pacific Northwest. It holds around nine thousand animals across more than three hundred species on twenty nine acres.
