The New York Aquarium moves to Coney Island

The oldest continually operating aquarium in the United States opened in 1896 at Castle Garden in the Battery and came out to the boardwalk in 1957. It holds 266 species on fourteen acres and is run by the Wildlife Conservation Society, the same body that runs the Bronx Zoo.
