Pine Lake, the weekend lake colony that turned into a city
1937
Pine Lake, DeKalb County, Georgia

The Pine Woods Corporation dammed a widened stretch of Snapfinger Creek and from 1935 sold lots 20 feet by 100 feet for 69.95 dollars, pitched at Atlantans as weekend cabins down an unpaved Rockbridge Road. It came with docks, diving boards, a bath house and a playground. Enough buyers stayed on that the place incorporated in December 1937. At about 750 residents it is the smallest city in DeKalb County and has long pulled in artists and musicians.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
