Pershing High wins the 1967 state title with six future pros on the floor
1967
Conant Gardens, Detroit
Will Robinson coached Pershing to the Michigan Class A championship in 1967, taking the final against Flint Central 90 to 66. Spencer Haywood was the centre of that team and went on to an Olympic gold medal and a Supreme Court case that let players turn professional before finishing college. Five of his teammates also went pro. Robinson left Detroit in 1970 to become the first Black head coach of a Division I basketball programme.
