Pembina, the first settlement in North Dakota

Pembina, North Dakota

A North West Company post at the junction of the Pembina and the Red, and the oldest European settlement in the state. For decades nobody was certain which country it was in, a survey in 1823 found it lay south of the 49th parallel, and part of the community simply moved north into Canada rather than change nationality.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
