Parker incorporates in 1969 to protect the two acre lot

Parker grew up around a gristmill and general store in the early 1880s and was still farmland when Plano and Richardson were filling with subdivisions. In 1969 residents voted 79 to 11 to become a city, mainly so they could write two acre minimum lots and a ban on commercial development into ordinances of their own. It still covers about eight and a half square miles and holds around 5,500 people, which is why a working ranch could sit inside the city limits and be filmed as Southfork.
