West Fifth Avenue, a wall of brick apartment blocks in a house town
1922
Gary, Indiana
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Thirty brick apartment buildings, most of them four storeys, went up along West Fifth Avenue between 1922 and 1928 as Gary's population outran its single family housing. The density reads closer to a Chicago street than to anything else in Indiana. Colonial Revival, Renaissance Revival and Gothic Revival fronts break up the run.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
