Oaks Park and the Oakland Oaks of the Pacific Coast League

The Oakland Oaks played in this wooden park from 1913 until 1955, on a block just over the line in Emeryville, which is why the papers sometimes called it Emeryville Park. It held about 11,000 people, most of them in two long bleachers, and the Pacific Coast League it belonged to was the best baseball west of St. Louis before the majors moved out. Casey Stengel managed the Oaks to a pennant here in 1948 and went to the Yankees the next year.
