Neir's Tavern has been pouring since 1829
1829
87-48 78th Street, Woodhaven, Queens
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
The bar opened beside the Union Course racetrack in 1829 to take the racing crowds and has changed names half a dozen times without ever closing for long, including a run as a speakeasy through Prohibition. Mae West is said to have performed in the hall upstairs. Scorsese shot part of Goodfellas in the front room, and the place nearly went under in 2020 before a rent deal saved it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
