Gadsby's Tavern, where Alexandria did its business and its dancing

Old Town Alexandria, Virginia

Two buildings on North Royal Street, a tavern of about 1785 and the City Tavern and Hotel of 1792, made up the room where a port town settled its politics, its trade and its social calendar. An 1878 hotel wing was added later. Half the complex is now a museum of early Virginian life and the other half is a restaurant serving in the original 1792 dining room.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
