The Tibetan Buddhist teacher Chogyam Trungpa founded Naropa in 1974 and put meditation next to seminars, describing the school as Buddhist inspired rather than Buddhist. Allen Ginsberg and Anne Waldman started its writing programme and gave it a name long enough to be a joke, the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics. In 1988 it became the first Buddhist inspired college in the United States to win regional accreditation.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
