Mount Olivet, the largest cemetery in Detroit
1888
Van Dyke Avenue, Detroit
Mount Olivet opened in 1888 on Van Dyke alongside the Grand Trunk line, well out in the country at the time. At 320 acres it is the largest cemetery in Detroit, wide enough that Outer Drive runs straight through the middle of it. It was laid out as a Catholic burying ground and holds generations of the families from the parishes east of Woodward.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
