Denver City Council annexed nearly 3,000 acres of Adams County grassland and farmland in 1966, and a group of developers laid out a self contained district on it: about 1,770 acres of housing, 800 acres of industrial park, and the rest for schools, churches and parks. The first single family homes went on sale that year between 14,950 and 21,950 dollars, cheap enough to draw military families and buyers with few options elsewhere, and the 1970 census counted 4,976 residents, 314 of them Black and 396 Hispanic. Montbello is now the most populous neighborhood in Denver.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
