Military Ocean Terminal at Bayonne, from battleship dock to cruise pier
1942
Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor, Bayonne, New Jersey
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
The Navy opened a drydock on this man made peninsula in 1942, large enough for Essex class carriers and Iowa class battleships and the biggest on the East Coast, with a supply depot beside it. The Army took the base over in 1967 and shipped through it until 1999. Cruise ships have sailed from the same pier since 2004.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
