Sylvester Medley farmed this ground from 1905 and the town that took his name incorporated in 1949. It holds roughly a thousand residents and close to two thousand businesses, so the weekday population swells past 60,000 and then drives home at night. The tax base is warehouses, trucking and the Pennsuco cement plant, which digs its own limestone out of a quarry on site.
