Marble Hill, the piece of Manhattan stuck to the Bronx

Marble Hill sat at the northern tip of Manhattan island until the Harlem River Ship Canal was cut straight through the neck in 1895, leaving the neighbourhood marooned offshore. The old Spuyten Duyvil Creek behind it was filled in by 1914, welding it to the Bronx mainland and burying the King's Bridge of 1693 somewhere beneath the streets. It is still legally Manhattan, which has kept the argument alive for a century.
