Marathon buys out Oakwood Heights and leaves Boynton where it is
2012

Boynton and Oakwood Heights are the only parts of Detroit south of the River Rouge, wedged between a refinery, a steel plant and a rail yard. When Marathon finished a heavy oil expansion here, it offered to buy about 300 homes in Oakwood Heights, which was mostly white, and cleared the blocks it bought. Boynton, next door and mostly Black, was offered nothing at the time. Oakwood Heights is largely empty ground now and the two neighbourhoods together lost more than a fifth of their people between 2000 and 2010.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
