Little Saigon gets Bellaire Boulevard renamed Saigon Boulevard
Houston, Texas
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
Refugees who came after 1975 and the boat people of the following decade built one of the largest Vietnamese communities in the United States along this part of Bellaire, west of Chinatown. Houston gave the stretch the honorary name Saigon Boulevard and renamed intersecting streets in Vietnamese. The metro Vietnamese population runs to somewhere between 100,000 and 150,000. Outsiders read it as an extension of Chinatown, which it is not.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
