Houston's Chinatown moves west to Bellaire Boulevard
1983
Houston, Texas

Chinese families who had been downtown near the convention centre began buying strip centres out along Bellaire Boulevard, and by the 1980s this stretch was the working Chinatown, Cantonese speaking and built around shopping plazas rather than a walkable main street. Vietnamese, Korean, Taiwanese, Indian and Pakistani businesses followed. It is now one of the largest pan Asian commercial corridors in the country, and locals increasingly call it Asiatown instead.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
