Ben Novack hired Morris Lapidus to design everything from the curved facade to the carpets, and got the hotel that defined postwar Miami Beach. Lapidus put in a grand staircase that led only to a cloakroom, so that guests could walk back down it in front of the lobby. The bar and the pool deck turned up in film after film and the guest list ran from Sinatra to Judy Garland.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
