Kensington, the wet town on the edge of dry Pullman

Kensington began in 1852 as Calumet Junction, a small camp of rail workers where the Illinois Central met the Michigan Central. When George Pullman built his company town next door and kept it dry, the saloons along Front Avenue did very well out of Pullman residents walking across the line. Neighbours nicknamed the place Bumtown. It filled up with workers who could not or would not live under Pullman's rules.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
