Keeneland ran without an announcer for sixty years

Built during the Depression by horsemen who wanted a track run as a place to see racing rather than to take money, it refused a public address announcer until 1997 on the grounds that people should watch the horses. Its sales ring has sold more champion thoroughbreds than anywhere on earth.
