A power station built to serve one zinc smelter
1958
Potter Township, Pennsylvania
The Weaton station was finished in 1958 at a cost of 30 million dollars to power a single customer, the zinc smelter next door, with any spare current sold onto the Duquesne Light grid. Two Westinghouse turbines gave it about 110 megawatts. The smelter eventually shut and the whole riverbank was cleared, so this stretch of the Ohio traded one company's private power plant for another's.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
