Joseph Campau Avenue and the line that forms at midnight for paczki

Joseph Campau is the commercial spine of Hamtramck, roughly a mile of storefronts built while the Dodge plant was drawing Polish families into the city by the thousand. On the Tuesday before Lent the Polish bakeries that remain sell paczki all day and people queue outside from around midnight to be served at three in the morning. The same street now carries halal butchers, Bangladeshi grocers and Yemeni cafes alongside them. The whole strip went on the National Register in 2012.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
